Manila Masterplan + Housing

Mandaluyong MasterPlan + Detailed Housing, Philippines: JEG Consulting + Beckstrom Planning focused on the renamed ‘Hibiscus Hills’ Welfareville-Addition Hills sector of Mandaluyong in Metro Manila, Philippines. Addressing Slum Upgrading/City Building in response to Climate Resilience and Livable Urbanity.

The City of Mandaluyong boasts prominent institutions (ADB-Asian Development Bank, Banco De Oro, San Miguel Corporation, etc.)amenities (Wack Wack Golf and Country Club)and commercial/shopping areas(SM Megamall, Robinsons Galleriera, Shangri-La Plaza Mall, etc). Welfareville, a district of 100 HA lies as a ‘shadow’ community close to these prominent developments. Informal settlers have built up a temporary city housing holding untold numbers of striving families, perhaps as many as 60,000 settlers. JEG Consulting approaches the physical crisis of Welfareville on a macro level, assessing the general assets and liabilities in a preliminary Regeneration Plan. The field work of 2012 stands as the foundation for structural approaches in densification of a Detailed Neighborhood design to provide along term/value City Building. The main goals are stable neighborhood activities in relocation of onsite urban blocks which form the core approach to reconfigure the Urban Block/Street pattern of Mandaluyong for increased resiliency for Climate Change/Population Growth.
